About Constantine
Constantine, known as the "City of Bridges," is one of Algeria's most historic and culturally significant cities. Perched dramatically on a rocky plateau and surrounded by deep gorges carved by the Rhumel River, Constantine offers breathtaking views and a unique urban landscape that has earned it recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage candidate.

Located in northeastern Algeria, Constantine is the capital of Constantine Province and serves as a major cultural and educational center. The city is home to several prestigious universities and research institutions, making it an ideal location for academic conferences and scholarly exchanges.
Historical Significance
Constantine has a rich history spanning over 2,500 years. Originally founded as Cirta by the Numidians, it was later renamed Constantine in honor of Emperor Constantine the Great in 313 AD. The city has been a crossroads of civilizations, bearing witness to Numidian, Roman, Byzantine, Arab, Ottoman, and French influences.

The city's strategic location and natural defenses made it an important fortress throughout history. Its dramatic geography, with bridges spanning deep ravines, has created one of the most spectacular urban settings in North Africa.
Modern Constantine
Today, Constantine is Algeria's third-largest city and a major center for education, culture, and industry. The city is home to several universities, including the University Constantine 2 - Abdelhamid Mehri, which hosts our conference. The university is known for its strong programs in science, technology, and engineering.

Constantine has been designated as the Arab Capital of Culture 2015, highlighting its importance as a cultural center. The city features numerous museums, theaters, and cultural institutions that showcase both its ancient heritage and modern aspirations.
Getting to Constantine
Constantine is well-connected by air, rail, and road. The city is served by Mohamed Boudiaf International Airport, which offers domestic and international flights. The city is also accessible by train and bus from major Algerian cities including Algiers.
